Gender Care Initiative carries out its work using these six broad strategies:

Research & Policy Analysis 

  • To identify priority research areas on women and young people issues that requires immediate attention.
  • To initiate and conduct research activities e.g. case studies, in-depth interviews & focused group discussion, baseline survey & needs\ resources assessments on identify priority areas on women and young people.
  • To design, develop and implement innovative projects\interventions on women and young people issues and monitoring/evaluating the same.
  • To analyze existing laws, policies, plans, from a gender perspective and educate  women, young people and the public on the same.
  • To collect data on women and young people, analyze & document results for advocacy and policy purposes.
  • To build links with partners, including governments, non-governmental organizations, donor agencies and relevant organizations in carrying out the global research efforts.

Advocacy & Community Mobilization

Advocacy, community mobilization, visits and meetings with the political leaders, policy makers, opinion leaders, religious leaders, traditional rulers, & all other stakeholders to:

  • To educate and raise awareness of key stakeholders on women and young people issues.
  • To win support and raise the level of political commitment on women and young people issues.
  • To influence policies and funding for women and young people issues.
  • To increase & encourage community participation and involvement in women and young people issues,
  • To create a supportive environment for the work of the organization.

Training & Capacity Building 

  • Development of training manuals, materials, and tools.
  • Training of trainers (TOT), volunteers and peer educators on women and young people issues.
  • To conduct entrepreneurial development and vocational skills training for young people and women.      
  • To conduct ICT development training for young people and women.

on our focus areas – GBV, Trafficking, safe motherhood, sexual & reproductive health, STIs/HIV/AIDS prevention, family planning, women rights, women in governance & leadership, gender mainstreaming, gender sensitize budgeting, etc:

  • Provide services to victims of - trafficking, various forms violence against women, and rights abuses.
  • Provide community based reproductive health services e.g education and referral on STIs/HIV/AIDS prevention, family planning services, safe motherhood services etc.
  • Provide economic empowerment training to women/young people for self-reliance, wealth creation and economic independence.  
  • Provide free interpersonal counselling services on women and young people issues.
  • Promote child survival services and nutrition education as a vital component for reducing infant & child mortality and morbidity.
  • Provide technical assistance to CBOs involved in reproductive health and women development.
  • Care and support for People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) and children orphaned by AIDS (OVC).

Information, Education, & Communication (IEC) 

  • Sensitizing & educating the public on women and young people issues through seminars, workshops, campaigns, print and electronic media education.
  • Providing accurate, clear, & precise information on reproductive health & rights, STIs/HIV/AIDS prevention, women development and gender issues.
  • Collecting, processing, documenting & disseminating information on pertinent reproductive health & rights, STIs/HIV/AIDS prevention, and women rights issues for advocacy and to stimulate constructive discussion and action.
  • Creating, designing, developing, producing & distributing appropriate IEC materials on young people and women issues.
  • Dissemination of research findings through publications, seminars, and conferences.
  • Publish & distribute facts sheets, newsletters and annual reports on women and young people issues.
  • Operate a Resource Center to serve as source of information on sexual /reproductive health & rights, maternal & child health, STIs/HIV/AIDS, VAW, Human rights, and other women and young people development issues.

Networking & Collaboration

  • To encourage, foster and institutionalize collaboration, networking and coalition building among agencies involved in similar activities at state, national, regional and international levels. 
  • To build and strengthen the technical and organizational capacities and scope of community- based organizations involved in Health/Reproductive Health & Rights, STIs/ HIV/AIDS Prevention, and Gender programs.
  • To provide linkages between agencies that provide technical & financial assistance in the areas of our interests and community – based organizations in need of such assistance.
